Resolved Question: Any recommendations for a roller derby quad skate wheel grippy-ness for a linoleum rink?
I'm about to receive a new pair of beautiful skates (because mine are crap/bad quality) and I just don't know how grippy of Fugitive wheels I should receive. The rink I skate on is more or less like a difficult linoleum (I honestly don't know quite what it is--It seems a lot like linoleum to me). Can anyone recommend what they think would be best? Thank you!

Voting Question: Roller Derby Questions! Skates, Teams, Beginner-Status? Help!?
I live in Dixon, California, about 45 minutes from Sacramento, 15 from Vacaville, and 5 from Davis. I want to start being a roller-derby-er, and I have a ton of questions! Where can I receive cheap, good quality roller skates (can be used)? What nice of skates are good for beginners? Where can I go to practice and maybe join a team? (within 30 minutes of here, preferably) What kinda teams are there in the nearby area, and where are they? Any tips? I'm 16 and I don't possess a pair of skates, I know how, but I'm not good. I understand it's going to take ridiculous amounts of practice and bruises to receive into the roller derby scene, but to me, it's worth? Are there any roller rinks nearby? Are there any roller derby clubs or teams for people my age? Thank you so much, this means a lot to me. This is a dream of mine, and I'll do whatever it takes. What does it take to become an awesome roller derby-er? (And is there a correct term for that, I feel like an idiot, haha.) Please, please help me. I really appreciate it. Thank you so much! And if you know of a team or place, email me at carlys101@yahoo.com or just post it on here with their contact information or requirments. Thanks again!

Resolved Question: I want to join roller derby, just a little nervous...?
Soo, I want to join my local roller derby team. I just went to a game (bout, match?) this Saturday and it was so AWESOME! I still don't fully understand the game but everyone looked like they were having so much fun. Their website says they're always looking for new skaters and you don't even have to know how to skate (which would be me, the last time I roller skated I was like 10, but I'm sure I can still do it, just not too well). I want to join, every I have to do is send them an e-mail. The only thing that is holding me back is that I'm nice of shy and the girls there were so chilly, it was nice of intimidating. I'm also nice of big too, like I'm just tall and like err "big boned" with a little more of me to adore. There were bigger girls there too so that was inspiring. I'm just really nervous to take that first jump. Anyone out there roller derby, advice? I need a virtual kick to my butt to cease being silly and just do it!

Resolved Question: Torn/sprained Hip Ligament? What is it? How long will this last for? Roller derby injury.?
I have been training for roller derby for the last 2 months. I am new to sports and this is my first sports injury so I don't have a clue. I am generally fit, young and of healthy weight. Last Wed in training I felt fine. No more pulling and spraining than usual just sleepy in my hip area after a lot of moves involving opening up our hips for 180 turns. As the day went on yesterday (Thursday) the pain deep in my LEFT hip socket got worse and worse when I moved at certain angles. By last night if I moved in a certain way (ie. when I wiped the sole of my left foot on my right calf) I hit the roof with the pain! Walking normally or bending over slowly did not hurt much at every. I thought it was a lactic acid build up so got my boyfriend to dig into the socket to try and push it every out (which was nearly unbearably painful). I think this made it worse because in bed last night I couldn't roll over without whimpering. I limped into work today. I have had a Deep Heat patch on it every day and it doesn't feel like it is helping at every. It is sore to stand on and sometimes when I turn in my seat in a certain way I feel nauseous with the pain. I turned it the wrong way about 4 times in 10 mins and thought I was going to toss up, the pain was making me feel so nauseous. It is throbbing and sore even when I am still now. Yesterday and last night I could bring my knee up but not up and then sideways. Now I can't bring it up more than a few inches without serious pain. What have I done to it?? Will this go away with some relax? Will I be able to go training this Sunday (it is Friday evening now)? Will this happen again? Any info at every would be much much appreciated.

Resolved Question: Ok...so what was I watching last night....ROLLER DERBY??
I think the Cnadians nailed it!! "There was somewhat less graciousness from other athletes, including Italy’s Massimo Scali and Russia’s Maxim Shabalin. “When you compete in your home country the crowd goes crazy and it can help the skaters,” said Scali, who placed fifth with his partner Federica Faiella. “I wish that it does not affect the judges. “I don’t agree with the system. They [Virtue and Moir] are not real dancers. They are very technical and don’t really ‘dance’ on the ice.”

Resolved Question: What are good quad roller skates for beginners?
I want to learn how to roller skate so I can join a roller derby team. I just want to receive in a little practice myself to receive more confidence. I just don't know what nice of skates to buy. I don't really have anyplace to practice indoors (the roller rink is kinda outta my way) but I can practice outside, and I know that skates are indoor or outdoor so I don't want to receive an indoor one and mess it up by skating outside, but then again I don't want to spend a lot on an outdoor one only to have to spend more on an indoor one. I've been trying to search for used skates, like one's from old rinks but it's like impossible! Also, I have big feet (mens 11, well I'm tall so it balances out). I was looking at an old Chicago rink pair, but $60 seems a little high, then I found these retro '86 pair for $20, well there's 2 days left so they can go up. Then, I found the Chicago Bullet skate is only like $40ish, but thats meant for indoors. I know wheels can be replace, but I'm so confused! Can someone please help me?! Thanks!

Voting Question: I'm a parent and I could use some advice on how to talk to my daughter about...?
Well, my daughter is 10. Her dad and I had her when we were 18 and we have since split up and both remarried to great people. Up until she was 5, tho, he was still partying and not a part of her life, even in jail on and off. In the last 4/5 years he's gotten his act together and been a really good dad (and his wife is awesome to our daughter as well). My husband, daughter and I lived in Hawaii until she was 8, then moved back to Ca. Since then, her real dad has her usually every other weekend or as often as he asks. We haven't ever had to go to court cause we receive along and he sincerely wants to spend time with her and build back up a relationship. The only thing he has never done is support her financially cause he doesn't make much money. Also, we live in different towns, he lives in an apartment in a pretty bad area of a city and has a roommate to afford that. We live in a really nice safe tiny town, she does horseback lessons, dance, (cause she wants to) and goes to a really really good school. Well, today she came home from a weekend visit and told me that she thinks she wants to try living with her dad for a while next year. She said she wants to spend some more time with him and that is difficult cause we live kinda far apart, and also that her step-mom said she could play roller derby in their town. I think part of it might be that when she is with him on the weekends they try to do fun stuff every the time so she figures that dads home is always fun. I am the one that is responsible for setting boundaries and rules, making sure homework is done, teeth are brushed, every the "boring stuff" during the week... I'd be lying if I didn't say my heart broke a little when she said that tonight=( I know she just wants to receive to know her dad more, but I don't think it's a good idea for her because of her age, starting middle school, she has great friends and is a good student where we live now, but most importantly we ( my hubby, her and I) have a really close and glad family life...I am afraid of what might happen if she were to live with her dad for a year and go thru the transition to a teen with a parent that she's not as emotionally close to. Am I being a crazy mom or do my concerns make sense? Help!!! Lol. I'm grateful that she knows she can talk to us about it and I don't want to blow off her feelings, I would just appreciate advice on how to talk to her about this, without coming across as totally close-minded...(even though I sorta am about it)....I mean, his job is min. wage....her dad could move to our town to be able to spend more time with her without totally uprooting her or at least that's how I look it... But of course I am not gonna say anything like that to her, can't stand when parents dis the other parent to their kids, it's kinda sick. I just want to be fair and her to know I value how she feels, but still want to be the one to lift her like I always have....

Resolved Question: How do you handle a problem with a military recruiter?
I'm dealing with one whose a real jerk. Okay so I'm not a white male and I've already smelled the smut in this particular office. I'm very qualified to be a soldier, I have a clean history and credentials- the misogynist culture has kept me from enlisting. I jumped through hoops for this jerk who doesn't seem to have anything together. i had to grab 100 people to say I'm a legit character. I'm sorry I don't look like a roller derby queen but I passed the physical exams with flying colors. The recruiter was vague, unorganized and today i was villainized in his office. Why? Because HE was in a bad mood and I was the easy target. I kept my trap close but I'm unimpressed. I'm not being paid to deal with this. They sit around the office with their tax sponsored toys and bad mouth almost every recruit that walks through their door and I noticed that guys were treated better by the recruiters. I also noticed that some recruiters were nicer than others. Outside of his military career I could out earn him but that shouldn't be a big deal if he is the recruiter, right? The taxes of non-white females pay to subsidize the lifestyle of this lowlife. I've heard people hide behind the troops for political purposes, it's trash. Why do they even have a "don't ask don't tell" policy if these guys are already the lowest scum of the Earth to start with? I'm ready to quit the process and I'm pissed that I went to great lengths and inconvenienced many other people to start this process. Excuse me for wanting to serve my country, I don't think I can handle the self loathing wet rags and fairies in boots if that's what the next 4 years of my life is going to include nothing but these types of people. Thanks for the great answer guys. I've dealt with a boy's club before and this is what it is. The guys seem to receive more guidance than the girls which I find frustrating if I'm committing the next 4 years of my life without guidance. I've been yelled at by this one recruiter for subjective things. Ie. handwriting. But the story keeps changing; ie. one day they have a good pic but today it's not a good picture. I did fine on everything else; the ASVAB, the physical, I think every of my paperwork is in. Remmy, I'm quite sorry you don't have any luck with the ladies. That's your problem, not mine.
